Welcome to the Notion Goal Matrix!

Congratulations! By downloading this Notion template, you’ve taken an important step to achieving your long term goals and living a purpose-driven life. Welcome to the Notion Goal Matrix, a Notion goal setting template that can track your progress on the infinite game.

Configure your template

There are two ways to configure your template.

  1. Top → Down
    1. Start by establishing a core, and use this to plan your High Hard Goals and then Yearly/Monthly
  2. Bottom → Up
    1. Start by tracking yearly and monthly goals and use these to discover your High Hard Goals and Core Values

Both methods work fine, but you’ll save a lot of time if you spend some time establishing your values before planning yearly and monthly goals.

Establish your Core Values and Purpose

Everybody has core values, and everybody has a purpose. These must be discovered for each individual, and there are a lot of resources out there on how to establish your core values, so I wont get into that on the wiki.

However, to add your core, use the “New” button under the “Core” database (Figure 1.1). Under “Core Type”, choose if this is a Purpose driven core item, or a Core Value (Figure 1.2), and then name your core item.

Establish High Hard Goals

High Hard Goals (HHGs) are purpose and value-driven aspirations that can be achieved within 5-10 years. These go by many other names, such as Jim Collins’ version, the BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goals).

The easiest way to set your HHGs is by using your Core Values and Purpose entries and adding your HHGs right from the page (Figure 2.1).

By very nature of HHGs, it will be important in most cases to establish a “Success Measure”. This is your way of knowing when you have achieved your HHG. For example, if your HHG is to become financially independent, what does success look like for you? What should be your monthly revenue before considering yourself financially independent? This is what to specify inside the “Success Measure” property.

Establish Yearly/Monthly Goals

To establish yearly goals in the Notion Goal Matrix, you can use the High Hard Goal database entries. To add a new yearly goal, click on the "New" button under the "Yearly Goals" section on a High Hard Goal (Figure 3.1). Fill in the necessary details, such as the goal description, and any other related high hard goal.

If you open your Yearly Goal entry, you can use this to establish positive reinforcement, and schedule in Monthly Goals. I have automated buttons for scheduling Monthly Goals all the way through 2024 (Figure 3.2).

When establishing your monthly goals, be sure to schedule your daily tasks you will need to complete, and a “Success Metric” which is the percentage of scheduled tasks you are aiming to complete (Figure 3.3).

Schedule Daily Tasks

Notion Goal Matrix includes a robust “Task Matrix” database that helps you track your goal-related tasks every day. The tasks will show up at the top of the template on the day you schedule them, which should help keep you consistent and on track.
